After being ejected from the game on Tuesday, Larry Bowa hasn't heard from the MLB. But he expects a nice letter from his former captain, Joe Torre, now MLB chief baseball officer. Bowa said on Wednesday that he believes he'll receive a letter from Joe Torre after he was removed from the game by home plate referee Dan Bellino for his rather exuberant protest regarding Hansel Robles's pitch.
The New York Mets added three more runs in the last inning and won the game 9-4. They are now 6 1/2 games over the Washington Nationals, who lost to the San Diego Padres, at home, 6-5. As for Bowa, he came to the Philadelphia Phillies in July as part of the Hamels trade, from the Texas Rangers.
Following his expulsion, Bowa directed an expletive-laced tirade. It seems he believes the pitch was a retaliation for a home run and bat-flip from the previous night. When Jeff Francoeur joined the ruckus, it was clearly a case of Bowa bringing others down with him. Which is somewhat surprising. He may not be that good at baseball, but he seems well-adjusted. Now he'll have a blot on his permanent record, and that's just wrong.
With Bowa spewing offensive remarks and his team getting beaten by the Mets 31-16, the Phillies clearly has their work cut out for them.
But the question is: will Bowa get that letter he's expecting?
